Experience
-
2022.01 - Present Graduate Research Assistant
Whiting School of Engineering, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland, US - As a part of Biometric Recognition and Identification at Altitude and Range (BRIAR), built gait recognition pipeline to identify human from long range, i.e., 500m and aerial sensor platforms, i.e., 50°. Proposed DME is integrated as a part of final pipeline.
- Developed a robust 3D scene reconstruction algorithm leveraging accurate camera pose information from SfM and dense point clouds from 3D geometry reconstruction methods, achieving high fidelity under challenging sparse view conditions.
- Supervised by Prof. Rama Chellappa and Prof. Cheng Peng
-
2024.02 - 2024.05 Student Associate
Honda Research Institute, San Jose, California, US - Utilized the prior knowledge of Large Language Model to integrate the language and visual clues and predict viewers’ emotion when they watch a video; introduced spatiotemporal emotion stimuli and detailed explanations, enhancing the interpretability and efficiency of the model.
- Mentored by Dr. Shao-Yuan Lo
-
2025.03 - 2025.09 Research Intern (Remote)
Advanced Micro Devices, Santa Clara, California, US - Developed ImageDoctor, a vision-language evaluation framework that provides multi-aspect scores and spatially grounded feedback for text-to-image generation through grounded image reasoning and reinforcement learning.
- Mentored by Dr. Jiang Liu
-
2025.10 - 2025.12 Student Researcher
Google, Mountain View, California, US - Enhanced edge-device familiar-face detection by integrating gait recognition to ensure reliability when face recognition fails.
- Hosted by Cheng Zhong
-
2020.03 - 2021.03 Graduate Research Assistant
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, US - Employed the Fourier Descriptor to execute a formula recognizer which identifies multiple formulas in a picture. Applied a tree graph to describe the structure and further get the Latex form of the formula
- Supervised by Prof. Ying Wu and Prof. Jiahuan Zhou
-
2020.06 - 2020.09 Software Engineer Intern
Snips Media, Chicago, Illinois, US - Reconstructed 3D body shapes from 360-degree video footage and extracted images at specific angles for diagnostic purposes, utilizing AliceVision, a C++ library, to construct the 3D structure.
- Mentored by Prof. David Zaretsky
-
2020.01 - 2020.03 Graduate Research Assistant
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, US - Developed an adaptive band-pass filter to reduce noise in acoustic signals, leveraging the adaptive boost method and frequency signal analysis to classify the presence of gunshots in a reserve environment, achieving an overall accuracy exceeding 97%.
- Supervised by Prof. Stephen Tarzia
-
2018.09 - 2019.06 Undergrade Researcher
University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, Sichuan, China - Designed and implemented a Visual Question Answering (VQA) system by fusing image feature maps extracted using ResNet-152 (via transfer learning) with question features generated by an LSTM model.
- Supervised by Prof. Le Dong
